Book Review: Tarikshir The Awakening! By Khayaal Patel

Hi Friends,

Today I would be reviewing another book by an Indian author Khayaal Patel. The name of the book is 'Tarikshir- The Awakening'.

Plot Summary: A small princely state of Rajasthan is the last bastion of resistance against the might of the British Empire. While unrest surrounding the sudden death of the king of Devangarh grows, young prince Rudra Pratap Chauhan prepares to ascend the throne. But the kingdom is in turmoil. The Devangarh army is outnumbered and the British forces are closing in. To make matters worse, Rudra discovers the king's death may not have been accidental after all. The frequent appearance and disappearance of a mysterious, masked stranger and a series of ritualistic murders in which the bodies have been drained of blood, spread panic across the realm. Who is this creature and how is he connected to all the strange occurrences? As Rudra struggles to manage his new responsibilities and investigate his father's death, he stumbles upon dark, dangerous secrets that will destroy everything he now holds together.

My Review:

The plot is set in the Indian state of Rajasthan, when British rule was still persistent. The story revolves around a very powerful Rajput kingdom of Devangarh. The king is strictly against bowing down in front of Britishers like other neighboring kings. The protagonist of the story is Rudra, who is the prince of the kingdom and set to become the next king. The sudden death of the King shifts the whole responsibility of the kingdom to the young prince. What initially looked like a Fire accident eventually emerged like a planned murder of the king.

The language and the flow of the narration is very smooth. The writing style is very engaging and will keep the readers eager enough to turn pages. The plot keeps on building in a very systematic manner with no confusions. There is a nice blend of suspense, thrill, mystery, murder, history, fantasy, mythology.... Ending of the book is also quite nice.

There is a element of mythology in the story which I absolutely loved. There was a reference back to our very famous tale of Ramayana and characters like Hanuman, Lord Ram, Ravan etc

I love to read mythology fictions and this was surely a my kind of read. Enjoyed it thoroughly.  Fantasy lovers will love this book. Also this is kind of book you can carry while on holiday or travelling since it is not a very heavy weight story. Perfect for light read and for any age group.
Looking forward to read more of the Author Khayaal.
